The Achilles lock as a system: entry, control and the next decision
September 1, 2026This first leg-lock lesson introduces an attacking map rather than an isolated finish. The description connects the Achilles or straight ankle lock to entries, leg control, finishing mechanics and transitions when the opponent defends. Kostya and black belt Sanya are introduced in the chapter list. The useful viewing task is to separate those stages before trying to memorise a complete sequence.
Identify control before the finishing action
The published chapters move through leg positioning, the grip and body direction, followed by a slower full sequence. Watch what each stage is meant to hold in place. Does the leg connection remain organised when the body changes position? Which part of the setup would be lost if the opponent withdrew the knee or turned? Those questions focus on positional control. A tap by itself does not explain which earlier detail made the attack possible.
Follow the entry as part of the same lesson
The description includes an entry from butterfly guard and frames future work around standing exchanges, scrambles, guard and top position. That does not mean every promised branch is fully taught in this episode. Distinguish the system overview from the specific sequence presented here. After viewing, write down the starting position, the control to retain and the first defensive reaction you want clarified. This gives a concrete training question instead of a list of disconnected submission names.
Translate the idea into controlled practice
The lesson’s aggressive promotional wording is not a reason to apply a joint lock with a jerk. Practise the position first, increase pressure only under qualified supervision and release immediately on a stop signal. Rules and age divisions affect which leg attacks are permitted. Within BORETS LAB, the important connection is sambo’s finishing knowledge joined to wrestling entries and jiu-jitsu positions. Learn the control that links them before chasing a faster finish.
From the YouTube description
The Achilles lock is Combat Sambo's calling card — but the finish is only the beginning of a much bigger system. In Lesson 1, BORETS LAB introduces the complete map of our Combat Sambo Leg Lock System, adapted and integrated into modern BJJ, No-Gi and submission grappling. This is not a collection of random tricks. It is one connected attacking system built around entries, control, finishing mechanics, transitions and combinations. The goal is to reach and attack the legs from almost every phase of the exchange — standing, takedowns, scrambles, guard and top position. Throughout this series, we will break down: - Achilles lock and straight ankle lock mechanics - Grips, pressure and body positioning - Entries from multiple grappling positions - Transitions when the opponent escapes or defends - Submission combinations instead of isolated attacks - How we adapt Combat Sambo mechanics for BJJ and No-Gi rules - The drilling methods we use to make the system work under resistance ⏱ TIMESTAMPS 0:00 The Challenge 0:24 Meet Kostia & Black Belt Sanya 0:35 Step 1 — Lock Your Legs Tight 1:38 Step 2 — The Money Grip 3:01 Step 3 — Hips Up, Go Belly Down 3:25 Step 4 — Rip, Don't Pull 3:58 Full Sequence (Slow) 5:57 Live Entry — Butterfly Guard 7:14 What's Next Clear English-language Combat Sambo instruction is still difficult to find — especially a complete system rather than isolated techniques and highlight clips. We are opening our system step by step and sharing the details we use in real training and competition. If you train BJJ, Combat Sambo, MMA, wrestling or submission grappling, subscribe now. This introduction is only the map — every following lesson will add another working part of the system. 👉 SUBSCRIBE TO BORETS LAB: https://www.youtube.com/@SK-Borets?sub_confirmation=1 Where do your leg locks usually fail — during the entry, control or finish?
