One kickboxer, three BJJ belts: the entry problem
July 24, 2026Bohdan brings national-level kickboxing experience into three consecutive mixed-rules rounds against BJJ purple, brown and black belts. Each grappler enters fresh. The repeated question is how to get from striking range to a clinch, takedown or submission exchange while the athlete on the other side is trying to keep the fight in his preferred distance.
Three rounds, three fresh opponents
The rounds last three minutes. The purple-belt round begins at 1:12, the brown-belt round at 4:09, and the black-belt round with Oleksandr Oliinyk at 5:53. The order makes it easy to follow the rising belt levels, but it also changes the workload Bohdan carries into each matchup.
A belt is only one part of that comparison. Each opponent brings a different individual response, while the kickboxer has already completed more work by the final round. Treat the sequence as a gauntlet, not as three identical trials with one variable changed.
Follow the transition into grappling
The grapplers must first solve the range in which Bohdan can strike. That gives the standing approach a clear purpose: establish a connection that leads somewhere useful. A clinch, a takedown and a submission attempt are different stages, and reaching one does not automatically complete the next.
During a replay, select an entry and follow the athlete after first contact. Does the connection survive the opponent’s response? Does the exchange stay standing or move to the mat? These questions make the film useful even without reducing every round to its final outcome.
The closing vote is a separate story
At 8:35 the film reports the audience verdict from the earlier sambo-versus-BJJ rematch. That segment belongs to the channel’s ongoing story; it is not the result of the three kickboxing rounds shown here.
Keeping that distinction clear avoids attributing a viewer-selected award to a match it did not judge. The sporting takeaway from this episode remains the repeated distance problem, the fresh opposition and the kickboxer’s cumulative work under the agreed mixed rules.
