This episode is a technique comparison, not an Aikido practitioner fighting three combat-sports athletes. The team studies scenarios demonstrated by Ryuji Shirakawa Sensei and discussed by Jesse Enkamp, then Kostya Zhyvanov, Mykola Chaban and Oleksandr Oliinyk present alternatives shaped by Sambo, freestyle wrestling and BJJ.
The point is not to declare an entire martial art useless or scientifically rank four systems from one filming session. It is to show how different rule sets and training habits change distance, grips, balance, control and the transition from a standing exchange to a safer exit.
What to watch for
- The same self-defense situation can produce very different answers across Aikido, Sambo, wrestling and BJJ.
- Each alternative reflects the athlete's own rules, habits and preferred way of controlling balance and distance.
- The Aikido material is observed on video; no visiting Aikido practitioner competes in this episode.
- The controlled demonstrations are educational and are not advice to confront an armed person.
