A sambo category has four parts: discipline, age group, sex and weight. Start with the event regulations, then check the relevant FIAS table. The lists below reflect the sport and combat rulebooks available on 21 September 2026. They describe the international framework; they do not guarantee that a local tournament offers every division.

How to read the age and weight labels

FIAS determines age-group membership by birth year; the event regulations specify eligible years. Cadets are listed as 14–16, youth as 16–18, juniors as 18–20 and adults as 18+. Sport sambo also lists adults under 24 as 18–23. Overlapping labels are not permission to enter several groups: confirm the actual entry conditions.

All weights below are kilograms. A number is a category’s upper limit; +88 means above 88 kg, not another name for the 88 kg category. For US athletes, use the organizer’s official kilogram scale and weighing procedure rather than a rounded pounds conversion. A registration estimate does not replace the official weigh-in.

Cadets: sport and combat, ages 14–16

Boys: 46, 49, 53, 58, 64, 71, 79, 88, +88 kg.

Girls: 41, 44, 47, 50, 54, 59, 65, 72, +72 kg.

The weight lists match in the two disciplines. That does not make their permitted techniques, protective equipment or competition experience interchangeable. FIAS also publishes a separate youth and cadet combat rulebook.

Youth: sport and combat, ages 16–18

Boys: 53, 58, 64, 71, 79, 88, 98, +98 kg.

Girls: 47, 50, 54, 59, 65, 72, 80, +80 kg.

A teenager moving between age groups may encounter a different weight list without changing body weight. Recheck both fields each season; do not carry last year’s category into a new registration automatically.

Juniors, adults and sport under-24

Men: 58, 64, 71, 79, 88, 98, +98 kg.

Women: 50, 54, 59, 65, 72, 80, +80 kg.

These lists apply to juniors and adults in both sport and combat sambo, and to sport sambo’s under-24 group. The current general combat table does not list an under-24 or masters group. Do not infer one from the sport table.

Sport sambo masters

Age bands: 35–39, 40–44, 45–49, 50–54, 55–59, 60–64 and the oldest group, shown as 65+ in FIAS 2026 masters competition results. Confirm the birth-year wording in the event regulations.

Men: 64, 71, 79, 88, 98, +98 kg. Women: 54, 59, 65, 72, 80, +80 kg.

The general sport table includes both sexes, but an individual masters championship may offer only men’s divisions. A category appearing in the rulebook is not proof that entries are open for it at your chosen event.

Check eligibility before planning the trip

Confirm the discipline, birth years, offered divisions, membership requirements and weigh-in schedule with the organizer. Local children’s events may use younger groups outside these international tables; request their actual rules rather than assigning an adult format to a child.

For a young athlete, choose an appropriate event and natural weight category with the coach and parent. This table is an entry reference, not a reason to dehydrate or force a weight change. An absent division is a question for the organizer, not something to solve by guessing on the form.
