Aikido scenarios through sambo, wrestling and BJJ
August 1, 2026This episode compares answers to situations shown in Aikido demonstrations. It is not a match between an Aikido practitioner and the BORETS LAB team. The athletes watch material featuring Ryuji Shirakawa Sensei and discussed by Jesse Enkamp, then present alternatives shaped by their own sporting backgrounds. That distinction is essential to understanding what the film actually tests.
Three sporting perspectives on the same setup
Kostya Zhyvanov brings a sambo perspective, Mykola Chaban brings freestyle wrestling, and Oleksandr Oliinyk brings BJJ. The common starting situation gives the viewer a way to compare priorities. Each athlete has habits about distance, grips, balance and how to continue once contact is established.
The comparison is therefore about decisions as much as named techniques. Ask what each answer tries to control first and which response it expects from the other person. A familiar-looking movement may depend on a different starting grip or a different level of cooperation.
Watch the assumptions, not only the movement
A useful viewing question is whether the proposed answer changes the situation or depends on it staying fixed. Does the athlete need a particular distance? Is control maintained while changing direction? What happens between the first contact and the intended exit? These are questions for analysing the demonstration, not claims that every answer has been proven in uncontrolled circumstances.
The original Aikido material is viewed on screen. Its practitioner is not present to adjust the demonstration against these athletes, so the film should not be read as a direct head-to-head contest.
The limits belong in the conclusion
The episode offers a comparison of training habits, not a scientific ranking of martial arts or a reliable prediction of a real assault. Controlled scenarios omit variables that cannot be reproduced responsibly as an entertainment challenge.
Keep the takeaway specific: different sporting backgrounds direct attention to different connections and exits. The film can sharpen the questions you bring to a coach. It is not a practical invitation to confront an armed person or to reproduce a risky demonstration without suitable supervision.
From the YouTube description
Four martial arts. The same self-defense situations. Four completely different answers. Which approach would you trust? We watch scenarios demonstrated by Ryuji Shirakawa Sensei and Jesse Enkamp. Then Kostya, Kolya and Sanya show how Sambo, Freestyle Wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu approach the same problems. This is an independent BORETS LAB experiment — not an attempt to “expose” Aikido and not a scientific ranking of entire martial arts. Different methods, shared respect. 🏆 $100 ATHLETE BONUS — VOTING CLOSES 72 HOURS AFTER PUBLICATION Comment KOSTYA, KOLYA or SANYA and explain which answer you found most convincing.
