BORETS team & academy · Kropyvnytskyi, Ukraine

Three grappling traditions. One competition system.

BORETS is a Ukrainian hybrid grappling academy built on Sport Sambo, freestyle wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, with modern strength and conditioning connecting the work. Athletes compete in grappling and BJJ; the foundation is deliberately broader.

The BORETS method

A hybrid by design—not a collection of random techniques.

Each style owns a different part of the same problem. Training connects those parts into decisions an athlete can repeat under resistance and competition pressure.

01

Sport Sambo

Grip fighting, committed throwing entries, rapid transitions and the instinct to establish useful control immediately after the landing.

Throw · transition · control
02

Freestyle wrestling

Stance, motion, leg attacks, chain finishes, takedown defense, scrambling and the ability to keep working when the first action stalls.

Position · attack · re-attack
03

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Positional problem-solving, guard work, pressure, escapes and submission decisions in both gi and no-gi environments.

Position · pressure · finish

Modern physical preparation is the fourth layer.

Strength, power, aerobic support, repeat-effort capacity and load management are planned around technical practice. Conditioning must make the grappler more available to learn and compete—not merely more tired.

The competition pathway

The tournament is the test. The system is the daily work.

Grappling and BJJ are the primary competitive outlets for the team. Young athletes who grow inside the academy build an unusually broad base: they learn to stand, attack legs, throw, scramble, control and solve ground positions rather than being defined by a single ruleset.

01

Start standing

Every athlete learns balance, first contact and safe takedown decisions.

02

Connect the phases

A score is not the end of the exchange; the landing must lead to control or the next attack.

03

Compete with a map

Rules change, so athletes learn what transfers and what must be adapted.

04

Prepare the whole athlete

Technical work, physical preparation, recovery and decision-making share one calendar.

Ievgen Skyrda

Founder · Head coach

Ievgen Skyrda

Ievgen’s coaching system comes from a long competitive life across judo, Sport Sambo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He received his BJJ black belt in 2019 through Zé Radiola and Max Carvalho, then continued building a Kropyvnytskyi program in which athletes can move intelligently between styles instead of defending one style as an identity.

BJJ Heroes profiled Skyrda as the driving force behind Kropyvnytskyi’s international grappling success, documenting his judo and sambo base, the academy’s professional training structure and its open, work-first selection philosophy.
