Boxer vs sambo: what changes when both athletes must box?
September 17, 2026Nikita and Kostya Zhyvanov meet in a gym challenge built around two different tasks. The description lists Nikita at 82 kg and Kostya at 76 kg. First, each athlete uses a separate set of tools; then both must box. There are no judges and no official winner. The changing constraint is the episode’s most useful comparison.
Two rounds, two different questions
In the opening round, the boxer can punch while the sambo athlete can close distance, throw and seek a submission. In the second, punches are the only permitted attacks for both. The description also explains that the athletes reset after a throw, submission or knockdown when they can safely continue. A finish therefore does not necessarily end the whole challenge. Keep that format in mind before treating one moment as the final result.
Watch how the available threats change distance
Compare the space between the athletes before the first contact in each round. When a takedown is possible, entering punching range also creates a grappling problem. Once takedowns disappear, both can organise their stance around punches alone. Ask who has to move first, what makes the other athlete retreat and whether a reset changes the next entry. These are viewing questions, not a claim that the same movement succeeds throughout the film.
A test of adaptation inside the system
For BORETS LAB, the connection is the passage between striking distance and grappling contact. The rules make that passage visible, then remove it for comparison. This is a custom challenge, not an official combat sambo contest or a complete MMA ruleset. Note one entry that you want explained and the conditions around it. The useful next step is studying distance, connection and control in technical practice, rather than copying a striking-versus-grappling challenge with an unprepared partner.
